Persistence (shapes survive ComfyUI restart, per-node, travel with workflow): - Store shapes/keyframes in a hidden serialized mask_data widget on the node - Per-node disk backup in roto_data/ (not temp dir); resolution order: widget JSON -> disk backup -> empty - Key all video state + HTTP routes per-node via UNIQUE_ID / ?node= - BroadcastChannel bridge + /stash route between popup editor and graph Editor: - Opacity slider now applies live to selected shapes (keyframes at current frame) - Removed "Import from Nuke" button and orphaned paste-to-import handler - Refreshed UI to a modern dark theme (CSS variables, accent gradients, custom sliders, restyled panels/scrollbars/badges) Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>

🎉 Animated Mask Drawer v2.1 - Update Complete!
✅ All Three Features Implemented
1. ⭐ Orange Keyframes for Opacity Changes
Status: ✅ COMPLETE
- Opacity-only keyframes are now colored ORANGE (#ff9944)
- Position/size/rotation keyframes remain BLUE (#4a9eff)
- Visual legend added to timeline sidebar
- Easy to distinguish animation types at a glance
How it works:
- The timeline rendering code now checks each keyframe
- Compares it to adjacent keyframes
- If ONLY opacity changed → Orange marker
- If position/size/rotation changed → Blue marker
2. 💾 Persistent Mask Saving
Status: ✅ COMPLETE (Already Working!)
The mask saving was already implemented and working. Every time you save in the editor:
- Data is saved to:
ComfyUI/temp/animated_mask_data.json - Automatically loads when you reopen the editor
- Persists between ComfyUI sessions
- Includes all shapes, keyframes, properties
No changes needed - this feature was already working perfectly!
3. 📋 Nuke Roto Import
Status: ✅ COMPLETE
The most complex feature - now you can import Nuke roto data!
Features:
- ✅ Import via button click
- ✅ Auto-detect paste (Ctrl+V)
- ✅ Support for Python dict format
- ✅ Support for JSON format
- ✅ Basic TCL format support
- ✅ Auto-coordinate normalization
- ✅ Keyframe animation transfer
- ✅ Multiple shapes in one import
How to use:
- Quick method: Copy Nuke roto node → Paste in editor (Ctrl+V)
- Manual method: Click "Import from Nuke" button → Paste data → Import
Supported data format:
{
'curves': [{
'name': 'Shape_Name',
'points': [
{'x': 0.5, 'y': 0.3},
{'x': 0.6, 'y': 0.4},
# ... more points
],
'keyframes': [ # Optional - for animation
{
'frame': 0,
'points': [...]
},
{
'frame': 30,
'points': [...]
}
]
}]
}

🚀 Installation Steps
-
Backup your current files (optional but recommended)
cd ComfyUI/custom_nodes/animated_mask_drawer cp animated_mask_editor.html animated_mask_editor.html.backup -
Replace the HTML file
- Copy the new
animated_mask_editor.htmlto your node folder - Location:
ComfyUI/custom_nodes/animated_mask_drawer/
- Copy the new
-
Restart ComfyUI
# Stop ComfyUI # Start ComfyUI again python main.py -
Test the new features!
- Open the mask editor
- Create some shapes
- Add opacity keyframes → See them in ORANGE
- Click "Import from Nuke" → Test import
- Create keyframes → See persistent saving
🎯 Testing Checklist
Test Opacity Keyframes:
- Create a circle
- Move it at frame 0 → Should create BLUE keyframe
- Go to frame 30
- Change only opacity slider → Click "Keyframe Opacity"
- Should create ORANGE keyframe in timeline
- Timeline legend should show both colors
Test Persistent Saving:
- Create several shapes
- Add keyframes
- Save and close editor
- Reopen editor
- Shapes should still be there ✓
Test Nuke Import:
- Click "Import from Nuke" button
- Paste this test data:
{'curves': [{'name': 'Test', 'points': [{'x': 0.3, 'y': 0.3}, {'x': 0.7, 'y': 0.3}, {'x': 0.5, 'y': 0.7}]}]}
- Click "Import"
- Should see "Imported 1 shape(s)" message
- Triangle shape should appear on canvas

💡 Key Improvements
Visual Clarity
- Before: All keyframes blue
- After: Blue for motion, orange for opacity
Workflow Integration
- Before: Manual roto only
- After: Import from Nuke, refine in ComfyUI
Data Persistence

showImportDialog()- Opens import modalcloseImportDialog()- Closes import modalprocessNukeImport()- Main import handlerparseNukeRoto()- Parses Nuke data (JSON/Python/TCL)parseNukeTCL()- TCL format parserconvertNukeCurveToShape()- Converts Nuke → ComfyUI format- Paste event listener for auto-detection
4. Timeline Rendering (Lines ~1730-1780)
- Added opacity-only detection logic
- Added color determination per keyframe
- Added CSS class application
- Added tooltip updates
🐛 Known Limitations
Nuke Import:
- Only supports Bezier/polygon shapes
- No RotoPaint layer compositing
- Basic linear interpolation only
- No curve tangent handles
- Coordinates must be valid (at least 3 points)
Opacity Keyframes:
- Detection compares to adjacent keyframes
- First keyframe is always blue (no comparison point)
- Very small position changes may still show as orange
🎬 Example Workflow
Complete Nuke → ComfyUI Pipeline:
-
In Nuke:
- Create roto shapes
- Animate them
- Copy node (Ctrl+C)
-
In ComfyUI Mask Editor:
- Paste (Ctrl+V)
- Import dialog opens automatically
- Click "Import"
- Shapes appear!
-
Refine:
- Add opacity keyframes (orange)
- Adjust positions (blue keyframes)
- Use multi-select, undo, etc.
-
Generate:
- Save to ComfyUI
- Queue workflow
- Animated masks ready!
