Package Split Complete - Summary

✅ What Was Accomplished

Successfully split the PDF_tools package into two independent ComfyUI custom node packages:

  1. PDF_tools - PDF processing, OCR, and AI vision
  2. download-tools - Media downloading (yt-dlp, gallery-dl)

📦 Package Status

PDF_tools (Original Package)

Location: ComfyUI/custom_nodes/PDF_tools/

Status: ✅ Ready for GitHub publication

Changes Made:

  • ✅ Updated __init__.py to skip downloader nodes
  • ✅ Updated README.md with notice about package split
  • ✅ All license headers added (1,926 files)
  • ✅ Complete documentation (LICENSE.md, CREDITS.md, CONTRIBUTING.md)
  • ✅ Installation scripts (install.ps1, check_install.ps1)
  • ✅ .gitignore configured

What It Contains:

  • PDF extraction and processing nodes
  • Florence2 AI vision nodes
  • SAM2 segmentation nodes
  • Surya OCR nodes
  • Enhanced layout parser
  • Image quality analyzers
  • All supporting scripts and tools

🧪 Testing Instructions

Step 1: Verify Files

# Check download-tools structure
cd ComfyUI/custom_nodes/download-tools
Get-ChildItem -Recurse

Step 2: Install download-tools

cd ComfyUI/custom_nodes/download-tools
.\install.ps1

Step 3: Verify Installation

.\check_install.ps1

Step 4: Test in ComfyUI

  1. Restart ComfyUI
  2. Check node categories:
    • Look for "Download Tools" category
    • Should contain: yt-dlp Downloader, gallery-dl Downloader
  3. Verify PDF_tools:
    • PDF nodes should still appear
    • Download nodes should NOT appear in PDF_tools categories
  4. Test functionality:
    • Try downloading a YouTube video with yt-dlp
    • Try downloading images with gallery-dl
    • Verify both work independently

🔍 What to Look For When Testing

PDF_tools Testing

  1. ✅ Downloader nodes don't appear
  2. ✅ PDF extraction nodes work
  3. ✅ Florence2 nodes work
  4. ✅ No import errors on ComfyUI startup
  5. ✅ Console shows "Skipping *_downloader.py (moved to download-tools package)"

download-tools Testing

  1. ✅ Nodes appear in "Download Tools" category
  2. ✅ yt-dlp can download videos
  3. ✅ gallery-dl can download images
  4. ✅ Configuration files are recognized
  5. ✅ No conflicts with PDF_tools

Both Packages Together

  1. ✅ Can coexist in custom_nodes/
  2. ✅ Each loads independently
  3. ✅ No shared dependencies cause conflicts
  4. ✅ Both sets of nodes work simultaneously

🐛 Potential Issues to Watch For

Installation Issues

  • Missing Python dependencies
  • FFmpeg not found (yt-dlp audio extraction won't work)
  • Browser cookie extraction fails

Node Loading Issues

  • Import errors in __init__.py
  • Node registration failures
  • Duplicate node names

Runtime Issues

  • Download failures due to authentication
  • Config file not found errors
  • Path resolution problems on Windows
