ComfyUI Face Shaper: Ear Rendering and Reset Fixes

Overview

This implementation fixes two critical issues in the ComfyUI-face-shaper custom node:

  1. Robust SVG path parsing for accurate ear rendering matching the updated SVG
  2. Comprehensive reset functionality that restores all settings reliably

Changes Summary

Part 1: Ear Rendering (Robust SVG Path Parsing)

New SVG Parser Functions

  • _parse_svg_path_to_polylines(path_d, segments_per_curve=32)

    • Supports all required SVG path commands: M/m, L/l, H/h, V/v, Z/z, C/c, Q/q
    • Samples curves (C, Q) with 32 segments for smooth rendering
    • Preserves multiple subpaths (each 'M' command starts new polyline)
    • Handles relative and absolute coordinates correctly
    • Closes paths with Z command (connects back to subpath start)
  • _normalize_svg_coordinates(polylines, viewbox_x, viewbox_y, viewbox_w, viewbox_h)

    • Normalizes coordinates from viewBox space to [0, 1] range
    • Uses actual SVG viewBox dimensions (270.93331 x 270.93331)
    • Not hardcoded to 1024 anymore

Updated Ear Geometry (FEMALE_FACE)

Parsed from SVG path184 which contains both ears:

"ear_left": [
    [
        (0.187500, 0.484375),
        (0.156250, 0.484375),
        (0.140625, 0.609375),
        (0.171875, 0.609375),
        (0.187500, 0.484375),  # Closed
    ]
]
  • Left ear: 5 points, bbox minx=0.140625, maxx=0.187500 (< 0.5 ✓)
  • Right ear: 5 points, bbox minx=0.796875, maxx=0.843750 (> 0.5 ✓)
  • Stored as list of polylines to support multiple subpaths per ear

Updated Ear Rendering

  • Iterates each subpath independently: for polyline in ear_polylines
  • Applies correct transform pipeline:
    1. Centroid-based scaling (scale_x, scale_y)
    2. Position offsets (pos_x, pos_y)
    3. Pixel conversion (to_pixel with camera/FOV)
  • Draws each subpath with draw.line()
  • No double scaling or translation

Debug Support

  • Added debug_ears parameter (BOOLEAN, default False)
  • When enabled:
    • Left ear drawn in red (255, 0, 0)
    • Right ear drawn in blue (0, 0, 255)
    • Thicker stroke width
    • Logs point counts and bounding boxes to console
  • Optional flag doesn't affect normal rendering

Part 2: Reset Button (Comprehensive Widget Reset)

JavaScript Updates (web/js/faceShaperReset.js)

Completely revamped reset functionality:

1. Complete Parameter Coverage (58 total) Added ALL missing parameters to defaults dictionary:

  • debug_ears: false
  • debug_geometry: false
  • nose_tip_pos_y: 0.0
  • All ear parameters: ear_left_pos_x, ear_left_pos_y, ear_left_size_x, ear_left_size_y
  • All ear parameters: ear_right_pos_x, ear_right_pos_y, ear_right_size_x, ear_right_size_y
  • Camera parameters: camera_distance, camera_pos_x, camera_pos_y
  • All other feature controls

2. Dynamic Widget Iteration

for (const widget of this.widgets) {
    if (widget.name in defaults) {
        widget.value = defaults[widget.name];
        if (widget.callback) {
            widget.callback(widget.value);
        }
    }
}
  • Iterates ALL widgets automatically
  • Future-proof: new parameters auto-included if in defaults
  • Triggers widget callbacks for proper state updates

3. Settings List Disconnection

for (const input of this.inputs || []) {
    if (input.name === "settings_list") {
        // Disconnect the link
        if (input.link != null) {
            // ... disconnect logic ...
        }
    }
}
  • Clears settings_list input on reset
  • Prevents overriding reset values
  • Ensures clean slate

4. Comprehensive Refresh

// Multiple refresh mechanisms
this.onResize(this.size);                    // Node resize
app.graph.setDirtyCanvas(true, true);        // Graph dirty
this.graph.setDirtyCanvas(true, true); // Node graph dirty
this.setDirtyCanvas(true, true);             // Node dirty
app.queuePrompt(0);                          // Execute workflow
  • Forces complete UI refresh
  • Queues prompt for immediate execution
  • Ensures all changes take effect

Validation Results

Automated Tests (8/8 Passing)

test_ear_parsing.py

  • ✓ SVG path parsing extracts 2 subpaths correctly
  • ✓ Left ear positioned left of center (maxx < 0.5)
  • ✓ Right ear positioned right of center (minx > 0.5)
  • ✓ Both paths properly closed
  • ✓ Ear data structure matches expected format

test_validation.py

  • ✓ SVG Parser Commands (all M/m, L/l, H/h, V/v, Z/z, C/c, Q/q supported)
  • ✓ Ear Data Structure (list of polylines format)
  • ✓ ViewBox Normalization (uses 270.93331 not 1024)
  • ✓ Bounding Box Validation (left < 0.5, right > 0.5)
  • ✓ Ear Rendering Code (subpath iteration, transforms, pixels)
  • ✓ debug_ears Flag (exists, defaults False, visualization implemented)
  • ✓ Reset Button (all params, dynamic iteration, disconnect, refresh)
  • ✓ Backward Compatibility (no renames, category unchanged)
