Understanding Modifiers

What are Modifiers?

Modifiers are pre-written prompt fragments that add specific characteristics:

  • Lighting #7: "golden hour, warm low-angle side-light, clear sky"
  • Seasonal #12: "mid autumn, peak foliage colors, amber lighting"
  • Weather #10: "steady rain, wet surfaces, rainfall atmosphere"

The 12 Dimensions

Dimension What It Controls Example Modifiers
Lighting Time of day, lighting conditions Sunrise, Golden Hour, Night
Seasonal Season and atmosphere Spring bloom, Summer heat, Autumn colors
Location Environment setting Urban downtown, Rural countryside, Studio
Weather Atmospheric conditions Clear sky, Storm, Fog
Mood Emotional tone Energetic, Mysterious, Luxurious
Camera Photography techniques Wide angle, Low angle, Close-up
Color Grading Color palette Warm tones, Cool blues, Cinematic
Action Dynamic state In motion, Stationary, Racing

Composition Framing technique Rule of thirds, Symmetrical, Negative space
Distance Spatial relationships & proximity Macro, Portrait distance, Aerial view

DRY vs WET

Some dimensions (Lighting, Seasonal, Weather) have DRY/WET categorization:

  • DRY: Clear conditions, bright, universal use
  • WET: Low-light, wet surfaces, reflections, dramatic

Node Categories

1. Single Modifier Nodes (12 nodes)

Use when: You want precise control over one aspect

Available: Lighting, Seasonal, Location, Weather, Mood, Camera, Color Grading, Action, Era, Detail, Composition, Distance

Each has:

  • text input - Your base prompt
  • modifier_id (1-20) - Which modifier to apply
  • preserve_base - Append (true) or replace (false)

2. Style Nodes (2 nodes)

Style Transform - Apply artistic styles

  • Built-in: cyberpunk, noir, minimalist, vintage, etc.
  • Custom: Define your own style

Multi-Style Layer - Stack multiple styles

  • Combine up to 3 styles sequentially

Quick Tips

✅ Best Practices

  1. Start Simple - Use one modifier at a time initially
  2. Preserve Base - Keep preserve_base=True for most cases
  3. Stack Wisely - Combine 2-4 modifiers max for coherence
  4. Use Presets - Try preset collections for proven combinations
  5. Explore Tags - Use Modifier Info to understand what each does

⚠️ Common Mistakes

  1. Too Many Modifiers - Don't stack 10+ modifiers, prompts get chaotic
  2. Wrong IDs - Each dimension has IDs 1-20, check the reference
  3. Forgetting preserve_base - If output is wrong, check this toggle
  4. Not Using Custom IDs - Batch node's custom mode gives precise control

🔍 Troubleshooting

Problem: "My output is just the modifier text"

  • Solution: Set preserve_base=True

Problem: "All variations look the same"

  • Solution: Use modifiers from different categories (DRY vs WET, or different dimensions entirely)

Problem: "Prompt is too long"

  • Solution: Use fewer modifiers or set some to preserve_base=False

Problem: "Can't find a specific look"

  • Solution: Use Smart Variation with natural language description

Example Workflows

Workflow 1: Product Photography Set

Goal: 4 professional product shots

Base: "Luxury watch on pedestal"
    ↓
Preset Collection Node
    preset = "commercial"
    ↓
Outputs 4-6 variations:
- Late morning light
- Midday crisp
- Golden hour warm
- Night with highlights

Workflow 2: Artistic Portfolio

Goal: Same subject, different moods

Base: "Vintage car in garage"
    ↓

Lighting Mood Style
#7 #12 "noir"
│ │ │
└─────────┴─────────┴─────────┘
    ↓
Combined Output: Golden hour + Noir atmosphere + Film noir style

Workflow 3: Season Comparison

Goal: All four seasons

Base: "Park landscape"
    ↓
Batch Variation Generator
    category = "custom"
    custom_ids = "3,8,12,17"
    ↓
- Spring (ID 3)
- Summer (ID 8)
- Autumn (ID 12)
- Winter (ID 17)

Workflow 4: Random Discovery

Goal: Explore unexpected combinations

Base: "Street photography"
    ↓
Random Modifier (seed=42) → Lighting variation
    ↓
Random Modifier (seed=87) → Second lighting (different dimension)
    ↓
Style Transform ("random") → Artistic style

FAQ

Q: How many modifiers should I use? A: Start with 1-2, maximum 3-5 for complex scenes. More isn't always better.

Q: What's the difference between dimensions? A: Each dimension controls a different aspect: Lighting=time, Weather=conditions, Mood=feeling, Camera=technique, etc.

Q: Can I use modifiers from different dimensions together? A: Yes! That's the power of the system. Combine Lighting + Weather + Mood + Camera for rich scenes.

Q: Do I need to use all 12 dimensions? A: No. Use only what your scene needs. Even 1-2 dimensions create great variations.

Q: What's the best way to learn? A: Start with Lighting Modifier #7 (Golden Hour), then explore one dimension at a time.
