This concept captures the main findings from the Sage Utils refactoring analysis and highlights the most important simplifications and risks.
Findings
- The LLM tab codebase is significantly over-engineered for a local chat workflow.
- Several modules were split incompletely, leaving dead imports and missing event wiring.
- The custom dialog and settings code duplicates existing UI component primitives.
- The model loader and metadata layer can be simplified by making metadata outputs explicit and reusable.
Risks
- Refactoring the LLM tab risks introducing regressions if behavior and event flows are not preserved.
- The project has completed the v3 node migration, so compatibility work should now focus on v3 workflow stability rather than dual-format support.
- Local provider abstraction must preserve both Ollama and LM Studio capabilities without breaking either path.
Recommendations
- Replace large, monolithic JS files with smaller files that each own one concern.
- Prefer shared component utilities over bespoke DOM-building code.
- Isolate provider-specific logic behind a thin abstraction layer.
- Document the existing behavior clearly before changing the implementation.
Outcome
The analysis recommends a phased simplification: restore broken LLM behavior, then reduce code size, then migrate nodes incrementally.
